Want to see something included in Kinley V1.8?

Version 1.8 may still be a while off but now is a good time to make some feature suggestions. Version 1.8 will so far include the following additions:

  • The buttons on each post have been restyled.
  • The archive and subscribe can be disabled separately.
  • You may now use Facebook’s comment system (which is a lot better).
  • You can use the arrow keys to go to different pages (when infinite scroll is disabled or on permalink pages).
  • An option to show the archive in a slide down like the ask and submit boxes.
  • A problem with title has been fixed.
  • Hash tags in the URL will show certain parts of the blog without having to click on anything. For example the link above has the URL http://kinleytheme.tumblr.com/#ask which shows the ask slide down, whereas http://kinleytheme.tumblr.com/ask goes straight to the ask page.
  • Pages that aren’t associated to posts now optionally take up the entire available space.
  • An issue with the option ‘Show a link to the ask box on messages’ has been addressed and now works.

And more if you click the link above and message your suggestion.

Kinley version 1.7

Following the release of version 1.6 less than two weeks ago, which was missing a lot of the intended updates, 1.7 is now available and is by far the largest update Kinley has seen since its initial release. The update includes and fixes the following:

  • The header has been revamped and includes the following changes:
    • If ‘Static menu’ is not selected then the menu part of the header will float as you scroll past a certain point.
    • You can now add a number of social links to the right of the menu. Options include Facebook, Twitter (which is added if you set it up under your blog settings), Flickr, YouTube, Vimeo, Skype, DeviantArt and Behance. Pinterest and more will come in the future. This feature is not supported in Firefox.
    • The ‘More’ menu has been tidied up.
  • A large number of appearance tags have been added to the list, including color options. To use the new color options - tag the post with ‘color yellow’ (or whatever basic color you desire). There are also several ‘secret’ appearance tags for you to discover.
  • An option has been added to make photos bleed to the edges of the post (photos no longer have borders).
  • An option to hide post captions on the index page has been added.
  • Post sources have been moved to the meta line of the post (provided comments aren’t enabled) and an option to shorten them to just ‘Source’ has been added.
  • Typekit integration has been added.
  • The meta information at the bottom of each post has been restyled to match the menu.

The install page has also been updated with the following:

  • A link to update your copy of the theme has been added to the bottom of the install page.
Not mentioned in 1.6’s release notes are:
  • The new Untitled Themes theme assistant has been added on the customize page.
  • When purchasing the theme, you can save 10% by sharing the theme on Facebook or Twitter.

If you would like to preview the new version, visit the preview page here, if you would like to purchase the theme click here and if you have already purchased the theme and would like the update, message me with the name or email address you used to purchase it.

Introducing the Theme Assistant. All unedited Untitled Themes themes will receive the handy new Theme Assistant which is full of useful information. Theme Assistant is an expandable panel found in Customize (not on your actual blog) with updated information regarding themes, mainly tutorials that you request, conveniently on your customize page.
Many of the UT themes will receive Theme Assist as it rolls out over the next 48 hours. However if you have edited the HTML of a UT theme, you have an older version or you just want it, copy and paste the following, replacing </head> and <body>:
<!-- Untitled Themes customize assistant --><script type="text/javascript" src="http://static.tumblr.com/jw8fmba/i5nm2b5p0/untitledthemes_assistant.js"></script></head><body class="{Name}_tumblr">

The following themes have been updated or already support (waiting on Tumblr to approve them) the new audio posts announced today:

  • Stacky Version 2.
  • Kinley (now version 1.5.1) message me or use the Andrew & Jack link you’ve used to update it before to download the latest version.
  • Kinley LITE.
  • Sam’s Theme.
  • Impress.

I will try and update the other themes to include it ASAP. If you desperately want it, I suggest you try doing it yourself.

Impress is now available. If you haven&#8217;t previewed it yet, preview it here and install it here.
The theme features the following:
The most unique interactive layout in any Tumblr theme.
Animated audio posts.
Support for the new audio posts.
The new Untitled Themes Theme Assistant.
And many more great things. I will expand on this theme in the next few days but right now I&#8217;m busy pushing updates to every other theme. Sorry for the vagueness!

[The final version of] Impress will be available tomorrow in the Theme Garden. If you&#8217;re currently using the beta, now is your chance to submit last minute feedback. I can confirm there will be no rolling/continuous pagination but I have made the current pagination more elegant. You can view the final (so far) in action by clicking the image above or here.

To answer several trending topics in my inbox

First - “Kinley takes forever to update when I install it”.

I’d like to conclude this is easily fixed, it’s not. It doesn’t, however, affect the theme or your blog in anyway. I’ll do what I do best when dealing with your questions and blame Tumblr (that was humor). If you experience this problem after clicking ‘Update Preview’, click ‘Appearance’ then ‘Save’, finally refresh the customize page and go about your customizing. Your updates may not automatically appear in the preview to the right but they do save.

Second - Regarding Know-Anon and support.

Taken from the Know-Anon page. I can cynically conclude that because you didn’t read that, you probably didn’t read the steps either. I’ll only respond to people requiring the code (without Facebook), though the number of people messaging me for the code has me surprised, I bet you do have Facebook you little liars.

Also, just to the people who have gone out of their way to tell me that [because they can’t install Know-Anon that] the code is flawed - with 20,000+ users and extensive testing, I can assure you - it works.

Finally, I will be working on a third update for the bastard-buster (its internal codename) in the week ahead.

Third - “The Kony Ribbon does not show on my blog”

I’ve stopped supporting Invisible Children (not the cause though), I will keep the ribbon online but I will not support it. I do support Falling Whistles and they look so much cooler on your blog.

There are a lot of people exposing anons&#8230;
The graph above depicts actual usage data of Know Anon, the number of users peaked at an unbelievable 20,000 yesterday. Since its introduction at the start of the year, it has grown uncontrollably, which isn&#8217;t as good as it may seem. It&#8217;s not good because Know-Anon was created to combat hate-mongering anons, so suggesting it is used correctly, 20,000 people found it necessary to unmask haters.
This is still amazing none-the-less, I encourage anyone who&#8217;s being bullied to give this tool a try.

I like the people who use my themes, I really like the people who use my themes and message me with thanks but I love those who use my themes and donate. That’s why I’ve made a donation gift… the best theme I have made to date, why is it the best? Here’s why…
Meet Kinley, Kinley is the most customizable theme I have designed, it is riddled with hidden quirks, easy on the eyes and takes every detail into consideration and produces something quite unique. On the surface the theme is familiar, that’s because it draws inspiration from some of Tumblr’s most popular themes and is based on my successful theme line - Stacky, more specifically Stacky 5. Familiar at first, but once you add your touch through posts and appearance settings, it’ll be unique to you and your visitors.
What does it include? What doesn’t it? Here’s a list of the highlights:
The layout is based on Masonry by Desandro,
it includes infinite scrolling, though the jump pagination is pretty nice too.
There is a like and reblog button on every post, not just the permalink page, but the index page too.
The header is fixed (with an optional setting to make it static) so it floats with you as you scroll, you can change its background color and text color.
The header is filled with links that are relevant to you, you can change them of course,
but the best bit about the links - the common ones don’t take the visitors away from the page. The page simply slides down - try it, go to the preview and click ‘message’. Any link with an arrow represents a slide down page.
The theme is fully integrated with Disqus (or not if you don’t provide a Disqus name).
You can customize posts using the following tags (without the quotes):
‘note’ - makes text posts look like a handwritten note complete with paper, handwritten font and tape.
‘black’ - changes the post background to black, great for photos that need a dark frame.
‘accent’ - changes the post background to your chosen post accent.
‘nometa’ - hides the time posted, the post’s note count and comment count on the index page.
‘nocaption’ - hides a post’s caption on the index page.

Amazing Twitter integration from the header (unfortunately Tumblr wouldn’t allow me to connect the preview blog with Twitter so there is no way to preview it yet).
And so much more.
Every variable is editable to truly make it a custom theme. I love this theme and I hope you love it too, it’s easy to obtain, simply donate.
