Encountering the ‘Invalid Theme’ button
Not too long ago, Tumblr introduced a system that checks a theme’s HTML, if the system deems the HTML invalid, they make it seem near impossible to work with the theme.
But the criteria for invalid HTML is not clear, what deems HTML to be ‘invalid’? It’s safe to assume that this is a hit and miss feature, especially when it comes to custom built themes (themes not listed in Tumblr’s theme garden).
So what does it mean? Well it essentially means nothing. When you install a custom theme, in this case Kinley or Polarmark, you may encounter it the first time you paste the HTML into the editor pane. The button’s function doesn’t change however, clicking it will still update the theme’s preview. You can continue on and click save, reload the page and you’ll unlikely see the button again.
It’s safe to ignore this button, it does not actually affect the ability to update and save the theme. We can promise you that my themes’ HTML is valid and working and we’re dedicated to keeping the custom themes we release up-to-date.
The Kinley Theme has received a small update which includes an update to the menu arrows and a fix for the like button on posts.
We have no clue what’s wrong with Know Anon, we’ve been working hard to attempt to resolve the issues but we can’t replicate them. The usage has plummeted and judging by the number of messages we’re getting, something is very wrong.
Recently Dreamhost (the company whom hosts the files required) experienced downtime, however they claimed to have fixed the issues surrounding it. Initially we too couldn’t access the website but after talking to them, we’ve had no trouble. Therefore we’re struggling to replicate the issues. All files are fine, we’ve checked them multiple times, we’ve tested Know Anon on our personal blogs - all with success.
What we ask is, if you use Know Anon, could you reply below with whether it’s working or not for you. Basically: “it works” or “it doesn’t work”.
Now we know you’re annoyed, you paid upwards of $1, rest assured that we’re annoyed too because we pay one hundred that for a service that gives us nothing but complaints from our users. We want this fixed too.
Can we get some feedback, please and thank you?
Be sure to keep your ask box free of any haters into the New Year. Know Anon is designed to expose people sending hate messages and with 2013 around the corner, there isn’t a better time to safeguard your ego, however much of it you have.
Updated for the new ask-box design.
Know Anon has been updated to work with the new ask box design. No need to reinstall or anything, it’s ready to go. If you encounter any issues with it, just message me, anonymously or not.
Thank you to expiry for alerting me, I guess I don’t ask many questions to notice for myself.
Kinley v3
The promised update for Kinley is finally here and it’s huge! Kinley version 3 was built from the ground up, literally built from scratch. As the previous versions of the theme received more updates it became more bloated and slow, building it from the ground up allowed the reduction of unnecessary clutter and features.
So what’s new?
What’s been removed? (Note: a number of features considered redundant or causing issues have been removed.)
If you already own Kinley, just open the install file you downloaded when you bought it and skip through the steps (without actually completing them) until you get to the last step and click the ‘Update*’ button (this has been improved in the latest version).
It’s almost Valentines Day and I know you guys aren’t doing anything, afterall, you’re on Tumblr and it’s the weekend. Insults aside, show your followers that you love them by putting Falling Hearts on your blog.
Falling Hearts is essentially falling hearts through the magic of javascript, yes your theme will be totally covered in little hearts dropping from an apparent nowhere. Watch as they gently sway left to right in a romantic fashion on a virtual breeze softly blowing across your blog.
I will be, with a slight update!
We’ll also no longer be making new themes, we’re now working on a project that will be announced soon.
Premium themes and Know Anon will remain supported.
A number of themes have been affected recently by an update to jQuery. The issue was completely my fault, when I design websites and themes, I use the latest jQuery script which is automatically updated when a new version is available. However in the most recent release, a handful of functions were depreciated including one that is used in the infinite scroll script. Without it, the infinite scroll is unable to work and in some cases even cause the theme to not show at all.
I have been working hard to address this issue despite being overseas without a computer back. I’ve essentially started replacing the jquery-latest.js with jquery-1.7.2.min.js in the head of each theme, however the update takes some time to be approved and themes with edited HTML will not be updated. If you’re having an issue, I ask that you simply replace:
http://code.jquery.com/jquery-latest.js
With:
http://www.untitledthemes.com/jquery.js
For Level82 themes, simply replace:
http://static.tumblr.com/rejwoxv/VL5mbnyfu/theme.js
With:
http://static.tumblr.com/jw8fmba/JuPmhkses/theme.js
This will be found under the head tag, press control/command F to quickly search for it.
This applies to most Untitled Themes’ themes and Level82 themes. All themes in the Tumblr Theme Garden will be issued an update which will fix this, however if you have customized the theme by editing the HTML then you will need to replace the code above of reinstall the theme. Kinley has been updated and users will need to replace the code above or download the update from the install file found in the .zip. Stacky 5 and Cinch will be updated as soon as I have access to a computer possible.
Be sure to keep your ask box free of any haters into the New Year. Know Anon is designed to expose people sending hate messages and with 2013 around the corner, there isn’t a better time to safeguard your ego, however much of it you have.
It’s that time of the year again, well almost. Celebrate the holiday season with some virtual snow. Snowstorm.js has all the perks of snow and none of the disadvantages - it’s not cold and it doesn’t melt. Simply place this code in your description or anywhere within <head> and </head> on the customize page…
Any other things you wish to see in an update to Kinley?
A small update has been made (and will be applied soon) to all Untitled Themes themes. The update addresses the Theme Assistant on the customize page, it is now supported in Firefox and is slightly more robust. The update also removes all theme credit (on most themes) and places an ‘Install Theme’ button next to the ‘Dashboard’ button, this will tidy blogs up and keep with the consistency provided by Tumblr.
The update has not been applied to premium themes (yet) and Impress. To view the update, you can view the Sam’s Theme preview page. If there are any problems, make sure you contact me.
